Winged Victory, circa 300 B.C. | |
Thursday featured the Louvre. Tour guide Patrick turned the reigns over to Elizabeth, a wonderfully poised, witty woman whose expert narration and guidance kept us one step ahead of the crowds. I especially enjoyed seeing Winged Victory (see above) having drawn the sculpture years ago! Despite heavy security, I happily discovered that despite what I'd heard, the Mona Lisa was substantially larger than the postage stamp that I'd begun to imagine. Even the much-maligned glass pyramids at the Louvre made much more sense in person. Overall, I feel I got an excellent introduction to the Louvre that day and plan to return! |
